Abstract
Frictional drag of cable on pipe wall, particularly on curves, is the limiting factor for trasversed distance when pulling cable through pipes. The tube is filled with a liquid having a suspension of ferromagnetic particles. Cylindrical magnets with an axial hole are spaced along the cable. The magnetic particles are attracted by the high magnetic field at the outer periphery of the magnets and provide separating forces between magnet and wall, and stop friction. To make the overall density of the cable similar to that of the fluid and avoid gravitational effects, floats are interspaced between magnets.
