Abstract

Compatible and homogeneous blend of PVC and a copolyester comprises (a) 90-10, pref. 80-55 or 45-20 wt. % unplasticised PVC, with an intrinsic viscosity of 0.60-1.0, pref. 0.65-0.80 (in cyclohexane at 30 degrees C) and (b) 10-90, pref. 20-45 or 55-80% non-crystalline copolyester, with an intrinsic viscosity of 0.50-1.10, pref. 0.60-0.80 and a softening point of 70-220, pref. 150-190 degrees C, and is obtd. by reacting an aliphatic or aromatic dicarboxylic acid or its lower alkyl ester with a 2-10 C alkylene glycol or its ether, a cycloalkylene glycol or a hydroxyalkylene deriv. of disphenol A or diphenols. Prod. is used in the form of an oriented fibre, fibre, coating, moulding, adhesive, film, sheet or strip, e.g. for coating electric wires, paper, metal, wood, plastics films, powders etc., for laminating, and for bunding various matls. e.g. leather and non-woven matls. The blend has greater practical use than its components and better flame resistance and long-term strength.
