Abstract

Crude TiCl4 is purified by (A) adding anthracene, furfurol, cyclohexanol or xylene, and (B) distilling purified TiCl4, the impurities remaining in the residue. Amt. of additive employed is pref. 0.1-10 wt.% based on crude TiCl4. Specif., the crude TiCl4 contains V as impurity and the additive is used in amt. of 0.2-1.5 wt.% based on crude TiCl4 and 0.1-5 times the molar amt. of V.
