Abstract

A flame-resistant insulation is produced from a heat-hardening compsn. contg. 10-45 wt. % PVC, 35-80% chlorinated polyethylene and 10-25% polyethylene, which has been cross-linked by 1-10 wt. % of an epoxy acrylate in presence of a free-radical initiator. The compsn. has good electrical, mechanical and chemical props. The flexibility (elongation is not 175%) allows appln. by extrusio(; the oxygen index is >25, and the compsn. satisfies the vertical FR-1 and the horizontal Underwriters' Laboratories tests for flame-proofing.
