Abstract

The chimney draught is regulated by a butterfly valve pivoting round a horizontal axis and having a balancing counterweight placed higher than the valve's pivot axis. The counterweight is assembled on the vane and is movable under the opposed action of a return-spring. A bimetallic strip is secured to the inner side of the valve in such a way that, when cold, it forces the counterweight into a position away from the vane; the resulting couple causing the valve to open further and pass more air.
