Abstract

Machine for joining end of a moving reel of tape to end of a new, stationary reel. The machine comprises two similar reel supports, and a device to press one piece of tape against the other. The passage of the end of the old reel of tape is sensed by a sensing device. This actuates a pivoting lever which presses the end of the old reel against the start of the replacement, stationary reel, previously glued. The end of the new reel is thus pulled free of its retaining clips and drawn out as required. The retaining clamps are pivoted upwards for insertion of the tape ends, and downwards again before use. The tape is suitably tensioned before joining. The whole machine is mounted on rollers and guides to permit lateral movement.
