Abstract

Most railway vehicle footboards cause delay in passenger embarking and disembarking. They are fixed and seldom at the best height for platforms, so the patent covers a second footboard, fitted below the usual one and which can be moved outwards. This footboard is power operated and electrically controlled. It slides in supports from the upper footboard and is powered pneumatically, under electropneumatic control. An intermediate position is available for use with curved platforms. Controls decide on the position desired for the footboard. Safety devices, based on a piezoelectric transmitter arrest movement if the footboard encounters an obstacle.
