Abstract

In the parent patent 752049, anthraquinones are prepd. by the gas phase oxidn. of indanes of formula (I) (where R1-3 are the same or different alkyl gps; R1 or R3 or both may also be H). In the present modification, haloanthraquinones are prepd. in the same way but using as starting matls., halo-indanes of formula (I) where both A and B rings are substd. by the same or different halogen atom, or one ring by halogen and the other by H) e.g. 1-methyl-3-(o-chlorophenyl)-indane.
