Abstract

Fabrication of hollow sheet metal sphere e.g. for cistern: process entails the deformation of a core(2) supported cylinder(1) of say 20mm thickness metal by sustained internal water pressure: the deformation taking place within an internally spherical two piece mould(9). The core(2), a round diaphragmed tube drilled axially and centrally diametrically is sheathed by the cylinder(1) and its in situ welded circular end plates(6). The cylinder of length pref. 2.5 times dia. fits snugly in the mould(9)- welds bearing thus on mould wall and limiting weld zone deformation. Water at 20 to 40 kg/cm2 pressure is fed axially and the core is demountable and extractable via a contrived aperture.
