Abstract

The automatic brake holds a ski at rest when not being worn. In use, the brake is held clear by the ski boot. Each ski has two brake tines fixed to a rod (4) pivoting in brackets forming part of a cover (3) over the mechanism. A stirrup has two spring loaded arms and these keep the brake out of action as long as the pressure of a ski boot is against the stirrup. Then the boot is removed, a spring bias (7, 10) plus the weight of the tines push the latter into the snow.
