Abstract
A focusing device on the vehicles picks-up the approximately horizontal incoming light beams and directs it to a first photo-electric cell which reads its intensity and compares it with the reading of a second photo-electric cell placed near the first one but out of its focusing field. This second one reads the light on the spacing surrounding the first cell. The two signals are processed and compared in an electronic circuit which will switch the headlights when incoming light's intensity is smaller than the one red by second photo-cell. The automatic control can be overruled by manual operation.
