Abstract

To test the adhesion of pressure-sensitive tapes, a sample is stuck onto a plate, which for ease in rapid testing of samples may be slid into grooves on a test lever. This lever is pivoted off centre by an amount chosen to suit the range of adhesivity expected. The free end of the tape is passed over a roller 4 which has a surface to which the tape cannot adhere, and then clamped 9. The roller is mounted via a vertical arm 5 onto a travelling nut 6 which initially is close to the pivot. In this condition the arm falls under it sown weight, to peel the tape and to make a contact. The screw is turned, the nut moves outward carrying the roller with it and stripping the tape off. Eventually the forces are such that the arm rises off the contact. The distance moved can be precalibrated directly in terms of stripping force.
