Abstract

Ni oxalate is pptd. from soln. of Ni chloride, sulphate, or nitrate contg. 50-250 g/l Ni, with 50 g/l Na or K oxalate soln., and reduced to Ni metal by heating for 1-5 hrs. at 130-180 degrees C in the presence of an alkali under 4-40 bars H2 pressure with a catalyst. Particle size of the prod. can be controlled by adjusting pH, concn. temp. and reaction time during pptn. of the oxalate. Yields are almost quantitative and oxalate can be recovered for re-use.
