Abstract
1374237 Hydrogenation catalysts UNI-- LEVER Ltd 5 Jan 1972 [7 Oct 1970] 47668/70 Heading B1E A process for the preparation of a sulphided metallic supported catalyst in which a support material is contacted with an aqueous solution of a salt of the metal, a compound that on heating acts as a source of hydroxyl ions, and a sulphur-providing compound that at the pH provided by the source of hydroxyl ions on heating hydrolyses to yield sulphide ion at a rate at least similar to the rate at which the source of hydroxyl ions provides hydroxyl ions, and the solution and the support material are heated to give the sulphided metallic supported catalyst. By "source of hydroxyl ions" is meant a compound which on heating in aqueous solution gives rise to such ions. In all the examples the starting materials are nickel nitrate, urea and thioacetamide, and the support is macroporous silica having a specific surface of 292 m<SP>2</SP>/g; the catalysts are finally heated at 450‹C in hydrogen.
