Abstract

Treatment of ground or masonry subject to prolonged cycles of (de)hydration, comprises impregnating the desired previous areas with an aqs. soln of acrylamide contg a polymsn. catalyst, suitably a per salt, e.g. ammonium persulphate, and dimethylamino-propionitrile, and advantageously at most 2% of a cross-linking agent, esp. glyoxal, with respect to the monomer. The uncross-linked acrylamide, forms polymers which, after long periods of drying rehydrate almost instantaneously and possess a thermoplastic structure obviating fissurs formation when contraction occurs on loss of water.
