Abstract

Lead acid accumulator plates, coated with a damp paste, are inclined to stick when stored in a stack unless the moisture is removed from their surface. The plates are passed by an endless chain conveyor in a vertical position under a shaking screen where a matl. with a close affinity to water and with a water absorption capacity is sprinkled over them. Such a matl. is anhydrous magnesium sulphate or magnesium sulphate monohydrate. This method does not cause cracks like gas flame drying. It requires less expensive equipment than heated roll drying and introduce less risk to the health of the operators than the use of lead oxide dust.
