Abstract

The beam comprises a bottom flange to one face of which are welded eleven webs (2). At each end of the bottom flange (1) there are vertical plates (8) which are reinforced by fillets (9). The top edges of the webs contain three vertical studs (3). The top flange comprises a pair of steel strips (4) which are laid between the studs and which are separated by a space (5). The top flange pieces are held in place by cross bars (7) which are held by nuts (6). To obtain the desired curvature the beam is bent on a template and the nuts are tightened to maintain the position.
