Abstract

The connector, for connecting a current lead to the terminal of a vehicle battery, has an insulating cap which fits vertically over the battery terminal. A connecting piece protrudes radially with its square end into the circular cavity inside the cap and has tapered contact fingers at its other end to grip the lead's bared conductor. The tapers are closed around the conductor by a ring which is driven along the taper by tightening an externally-threaded collar into the end of a tube formed radially from one side of the cap and enclosing the connecting piece. Tightening the collar first closes the tapers then slides the whole connecting piece radially into the cap where its serrated, square end bites into the side of the battery terminal.
