Abstract

Measurement and observation of screened dot structure to find the percentage of printable dots and their density is carried out simultaneously. A perpendicular beam of light is focussed on the chosen dot, simultaneously two other beams light it from an angle, one each side of the vertical. At the other side of the transparency is a viewing and measurement system. A beam splitter deflects part of the light from the transparency towards the observer's eye, the remainder goes to a photoelectric meter. The side illumination is varied by control resistors in the known fashion until the diffusion disc is as bright as the light passing through the screened dot.
