Abstract

A piece of lingerie (eg. panties) is formed pref. from a single panel which is cut from pref. a continuously moving web of a woven fabric comprising a warp (formed e.g. from rows of chain stitches) held together by weft yarns, the fabric having a stretch capability of >=100%. Certain regions of the panel (e.g. regions destined to form the crutch or waists) are impregnated with and bonded to a layer of elastomeric material (e.g. copolymer of styrene and butadiene) which is pref. applied by a scrapper as a molten paste before the panel is cut from the web and which also has a stretch coefficient >=100% in its solidified state. The woven fabric may be of textured polyamide yarns. Lingerie can be formed in a reduced number of operations, thereby reducing costs.
