Abstract

The tubular axle may be moulded in plastic and the end is formed into a flange. The axle passes through a hole in the pointer which is held firmly to the flange by means of a metal fixing ring which fits over the axle behind the pointer, thus holding the pointer at right angles to the axle. A lug on the underside of the flange locates in another, smaller, hole in the pointer ensuring that the pointer and axle rotate together. The pointer may be moulded plastic, or thin metal if low inertia is required.
