Process comprises oxidant roasting of the V contg. materials mixed with oxidised alkaline earth metal cpds. before extraction of the V cpds. The cpds. may be extracted from the roasted material using alkaline liquors and treatment with ammonium cpds. and carbonic gas at =30 degrees C.
