Abstract
The prepn of KH2PO4 is carried out by reacting KCL in an aqs. medium with a cpd. or mixt of cpds of H3PO4 and CaO in which the CaO=P2O5 molar ratio is 0.7-1.1 (pref. 0.9- 1.0), at a temp low enough for pptn. (esp. -5 to +5 degrees C). The K:P molar ratio of the reactants is pref. 1.1-2.0 (esp. 1.25-1.50). The starting material can be hydrated monocalcium phosphate or a mixt. of H3PO4 and CaCO3, CaO, anhydrous dicalcium phosphate or di- and tricalcium phosphate. The KH2PO4 can be crystallised out of the reaction mixt. in high yield (e.g. 60-75% based on P2O5).
