Abstract

The novel title salt (I) is prepd. (a) by reacting essentially equimolar amts. of arginine (II) and 1-(4-methoxynaphthyl)-1-oxobutyric acid (III) in a lower m.wt. org. solvent (esp. ethanol or acetone) then evaporating solvent or (b) (to prepare solns) reacting (II) and (III) in water. (I) is formulated with conventional binders or carriers in unit doses of 0.25-2 g. (I) is useful, e.g. to treat hepatic obstruction in calves or, in humans, hepatic insufficiency, anorexia, symptomalic abstipation, food allergies, certain forms of eczematic diarrhoea, alcohol poisoning and cirrhosis.
