Abstract

Hopper for a screw extrusion unit is fitted with a smaller screw extruder for introducing a blend of colourant and base material into the throat of the main hopper. Colourants and base material should be fed to the ancillary screw via separate hoppers, with the colourant added downstream from the base material. Premixing improves dispersion of colourants, esp. finely divided powders, into the bulk of base material entering the main extruder.
