Abstract
H2O2, which spontaneously decomposes to H2O and O2 due to the chemical compsn. of the waste waters, is added to the waste water supply and/or recycle sludge in concns. such that an over-concn. which is damaging to micro-organisms is prevented by dilution with the waste waters. Process is useful for biological waste water purification plant and industrial microbiology. O2 concn. in water may be monitored continuously with e.g. O2 electrodes. Supply can be stopped on reaching a pre-determined set point and re-started on reaching a min. value. Open vats may be used without O2-losses, as O2 concn. is kept below saturation value. When treating microbiological cultures, H2O2 may be supplied directly to fermenters, where it is distributed by mechanical devices needed to turn the cultures.
