Abstract

The gas distribution system for plasma arc welders comprises between the central cathode and the nozzle in the gas feed a heat resistant material gas distribution cap with several circumferentially symmetrical distributed bores or grooves running towards the cathode. The sum of the cross sectional areas of these bores is smaller than the cross sectional area of the nozzle aperture. In the conical portion of the cathode are symmetrically distributed axial direction straight or inclined grooves. The system ensures alignment of the gas to obtain symmetrical stable plasma discharge resulting in an axial and parallel plasma arc.
