Abstract

Antifouling, self-supporting linings for ships comprise a film of water-repellent thermoplastic (pref. a vinyl (co)polymer) contg. a high percentage (pref. 10-60%) of an antifouling toxicant (pref. a salt or oxide of Cu, Hg and/or Pb). The thermoplastic polymer pref. allows migration of the toxicant to the surface and has a surface saponifiable by water. The film, pref. 100-500 mu thick, pref. also contains a water-repellent material, esp. a silicone or graphite. The film is pref. made self-adhesive by coupling with another film and coating this film with adhesive.
