Abstract

A false-twisting frame includes several twisting stations at which yarn is unwound from a bobbin and passed around several false twisting rolls. When yarn breaks and begins to wrap around a roll, the windings of yarn pref. deform a leaf spring detector adjacent to the roll and cause it to close a switch and thereby supply current to a resistance heated hot-wire cutter element, whereby the cutter element cuts yarn passing from the bobbin. The switch also operates an audible alarm and pref. switches on a light and actuates a clamp as well as causing the winding station to shut down. Pref. the heating circuit for the cutter element includes a thermostat to cut off the supply of current to the cutter element when it has reached a predetermined temp. The formation of large windings on the false twist rolls is eliminated, thereby reducing down time. The audible alarm and light ensure that a machine operator is warned when a breakage occurs.
