Title cpds. of formula (where Y1 is a group of formula where R is 1-7C alkyl; phenyl opt. substd. by halogen, alkyl, OH, alkoxy alkylthio; 5'-(opt. protected NH2)-5'-carboxyvaleramido; a group of formula where P is phenyl opt. substd. by halogen, alkyl, alkoxy, NO2, OH, CN, CO2H, CONH2, alkoxycarbonyl, opt. protected NH2, 2- or 3-thienylmethyl, 2- or 3-furylmethyl; m is 0 or 1; n is 0, 1 or 2; a is H, 1-3C alkyl; b is H, or (1-3 alkyl)hydroxyamino or -protected amino; R' is a protective gp. for CO2H, H or a cation; Z is H, 2-4C alkoxy; 1-4C alkyl; p is 0 or 1; R2 is 1-4C alkyl) are anti-bacterial agents. Cephalosporins of formula (I), Y' = Y2 where Y2 is a gp. of formula (R3 is pyridinyl, alkyl, alkanoyl; q is 0-2) are also claimed, and are prepd. from (I).
