X is O or S; R is H or alkyl; Z is H or acyl; Ar is aryl) or a pharm. acceptable salt with a base of such a cpd. which is basic, together with pharm. acceptable diluents, have diuretic and saluretic props. in mammals. The preparation of (I) and (Ia) is by a novel route from 2-naphthol-1-sulphonic acid.
