Abstract

Printing ink, hardenable by UV light, comprises usual colourants, pigments, polymn. inhibitors and/or adjuvants, and, as binder, a mixt. (A) >=1 resin sol. in org. liquid (e.g. an alkyd resin); (B) a polymerisable cpd. having >=2 olefinic unsaturations (e.g. bis(N-methylolacrylamide)-ethyleneglycolether); (C) >=1 olefinically unsatd. cpd. copolymerisable with (B), egdiethylfumarate; and (D) >=1 photo-initiator e.g. a mixt. of benzophenone with Michler's ketone. Component (B) has >=2 gps. CH2-CR-C(=O)-NH- where R is H or Me. The binder contains 30-75 wt.% (A), 5-55% (B), 5-50% (C) and 1-35% (D), with the proviso that (C) and (D) have b. p. above 180 degrees C under normal pressure. Used for rapid rotary printing. Drying rate is high hence no smudging or "making-off" on stacked printed sheets; no dusting necessary hence no effect on depth of printed colour.
