Abstract

Gaseous and liq. hydrocarbons, (used for synthesis of org. cpds.) are treated in a tube furnace, under press. feed, via a preheating convection zone, into a radiation zone for heating the hydrocarbons to the process temp. at which the material is converted into end process. and carbon, in which molten metals and/or their oxides and/or salts, esp., those in gps. III, IV and VIII, are added so that a flowing liquid film of the melt is produced, which surrounds the stream of hydrocarbon materials and/or the end prods. The melts have b.pts. higher and m.pts. lower than the process temp. The flowing molten film prevents or reduces the deposn. of solid unwanted prods. e.g., carbon, thereby increasing the effective heat transfer to the material to be treated.
