Abstract

1,2,3-Trichloropropylene (I) is prepd. by dehydrohalogogenating 1,2,2,3-tetrachloropropane (II) in vapour phase at 250-350 degrees C, using a catalyst consisting of finely-divided oxides of Si, Mg and/or Al, a residence time of 1-20 sec. and a vapour rate of 2-30 cm/sec. followed by condensing the vapours and sepng. I from the condensate. Also, unsatd. chlorohydrocarbons are prepd. by (A) liquid phase chlorination of 1,2,3-trichloropropane (IV) to a prod. contg. 20-60 wt.% unconverted IV, (B) fractionating the prod.from (A) into IV, II, 1,1,2,3-tetrachloropropane (V), 1,1,1,2,3-(VI) and 1,1,2,2,3-pentachloropropane (VII), and 1,1,2,3,3-pentachloropro pane and heavy prods., (C) (1) recycling IV to (A), (2) removing the II fraction, (3) (a) dehydrochlorinating V with caustic alkali, (b) chlorinating the prod., 1,1,3-trichloropropylene, I and 2,3,3-trichloropropylene, in liquid phase, (c) leading the prod., contg. VI and VII, to a 2nd dehydrochlorinator, (4) leading the VI + VII fraction from the fractionating column to the 2nd dehydrochlorination appts., (D) dehydrochlorinating the prod. from the 2nd chlorination appts. and the VI + VII fraction, (E) passing the prod. from the 2nd dehydrochlorinator, contg. a mixt. of tetrachloropropylenes to an isomeriser contg. Si-contg. granules with polar surface, and (F) isomerising 2,3,3,3-tetrachloropropylene to 1,1,2,3-tetrachloropropylene (III) at 150-200 degrees C for 0.4-2 hours. I and II are intermediates for selective herbicides
