Abstract
Formation of dust in a solid particulate material which normally shows a high tendency to dust formation, has a particle size <100 mesh of a Tyler sieve specif. 1-44 mu and is different from PTFE, e.g. carbon black, flour, pigments, beryllium oxide and selenium oxide, is prevented by (a) mixing the material with 0.02-20, pref. 0.02-1wt.% PTFE which can be transformed into fibrils, and with a treatment liq. in amt. suff. to obtain a homogeneous mass which can be processed, (b) treating the mass at >20 degrees C, but below the decomposn. temp. of the material or the PTFE until it forms a random network of PTFE fibres, (c) eliminating the treatment liq., during or after stage (b), and (d) recovering the treated material, which does not form dust, practically cannot be distinguished from the original material, and has an unaltered prim, particle size.
