Abstract
A catalyst system for dehydrogenation and/or dehydrocyclisation of hydrocarbons comprises an inert oxide (pref. gamma-alumina) support impregnated with 5-15% wt. (based on total) of a Group VI metal and 1.0-10% of Pb or Sn oxide as promoter. Aliphatic paraffinic hydrocarbons (2-5C atoms) yield olefins and H2 and higher paraffins yield aromatics. The processes are operated at 550-1250 degrees F (550-1150 degres F for dehydrocyclisation), 0.01-2600 mmHg and LHSV 0.1-10 (pref. temps. are 1100-1250 degrees F for ethane as feed and 900-1150 degrees F for 3-5C paraffins).
