Abstract

The instrument comprises a handle carrying two circular blades mounted between the arms of a fork. Blade (2) is fixed to one arm by a locking screw (8); it has a cut-away portion to allow room for the driving mechanism for the blade (1). The terminal face of the latter is ground to make an angle of 10-16 degrees with the contact plane between the discs. Blade (1), with a greater diam than that of (2), is mounted to rotate on the ring; its cutting edge is much more pointed than that of (2) so that it can penetrate between the hide and the flesh. The driving mechanism comprises a pin mounted on a disc crank; this is driven by a shaft connected to a flexible drive or by an air motor in the handle. The stationary blade (2) acts as a stop; it limits the extent to which the instrument is inserted and prevents any risk of tearing the hide.
