Abstract

An endless conveyor belt (e.g. a felt for a paper making machine) is formed from a belt having a series of loops extending from each end, each series of loops comprising large loops alternating with small loops. The ends of the belt are brought together so that the two series of loops interleave uniformly to define two transverse passages into each of which a junction element (e.g. a plastic filament) is inserted to join the ends of the belt together. The loops may be formed by folding over the ends of warp yarns and securing them back into the weave, or by a helical filament (e.g. plastic, metal) having alternate small and large convolutions; or by a small diameter helical filament located within a larger diameter helical filament. The junction is porous and is not of increased thickness.
