Abstract

Concnd. crude potassium sorbate solns made by reacting crude sorbic acid with KOH or K2CO3, and having a pH of 8.0-10.4, are purified and decolourised by treatment with surface-active carbon derived from coal. Pref. the crude solns contains 30-50 wt. % K sorbate. The treatment may be continuous or discontinuous, pref. by passing the soln. from the bottom through column(s) contg. the carbon.
