Abstract

Trans-methyljasmonate (I) is prepd. by introducing a double bond into the 2-posn. of the ring of 2-(2'-transpentenyl)-cycl opentanone, condensing the resulting 2-(2'-transpentenyl)-cyclopent-2 -ene-1-one with a di-lower alkyl malonate to give a cpd. (II) of formula (I); CH2COOCH3 is CH(CCOR)2, where R is lower alkyl and coverting (II) into (I) by hydrolysis, decarboxylation and methylation.
