Abstract

Non-linear polymer for use as a catalyst precursor, eg in prodn of catalysts for polymsn of dienes, hydrogenation isomerisation of alkenes, oligomeriation, acetoxylation silylation and hydrocyanation of alkenes and the oxo process consists of repeating units of formula (I) (where R' is opt substd 1-10C alkylene, the substituent being halogen or phenyl, esp unsubstd 1-5C alkylene, or opt. substd divalent aryl gp with 1-3 benzene rings, the substituent being halogen or 1-5C alkyl, esp chlorinated or unchlorinated phenylene or diphenylene; and R2 is opt. substd 1-10C alkyl or cycloalkyl esp. 1-5C alkyl, or opt substd aryl with 1-3 benzene rings, the substituent being halogen or 1-5C alkyl, esp. chlorinated or unchlorinated phenyl or diphenyl). Gives catalysts producing higher conversions based on wt. of catalytic component. Easy recovery of catalyst for recycling. Avoids loss of expensive catalytic metals.
