Title cpds. are of formulae (I) and (II): (where Ar is trivalent (hetero)cyclic where the valencies carrying the anhydride gp are attached to adjacent C atoms; Ar' is divalent (hetero)cyclic; R1 is 2-24C satd. aliphatic satd. alicyclic, aliphatic-alicyclic, arylaliphatic or (R'-O)p-R'-; R' is 1-6C divalent aliphatic; p is 1-100; and n is 1-10). No. of free acid gps in (II) and (III) is 5-70% (10-50%) of total -COOH equiv. with mol. wt 600-3000 (650-2000). (II) and (III) are compatible with most epoxides and soluble in organic solvents. Amt. used is 0.2-2 equiv. -COOH per epoxide equiv..
