Abstract

1289491 Polysulphones TRW Inc 23 Oct 1969 [13 Feb 1969] 52055/69 Heading C3R [Also in Division C2] Polymers containing bis-(phenoxyphenyl)- sulphone units are prepared by reacting (a) a polycarboxylic acid of formula in which three or four of each set of R 1 , R 2 , R 3 , R 4 and R 5 are hydrogen atoms and the one or two remaining R's of each set are carboxylic acid groups or (b) an anhydride of such an acid in which two R's of a set are carboxylic groups with a polyfunctional compound containing functional groups condensable with the carboxylic acid or anhydride groups. Suitable polyfunctional groups are polyamines, e.g. benzidine and diaminobenzidine. Polymers are described having recurring units as follows:
