Abstract
A composite material of whole or broken crystals of an inorganic scintillator, e.g. an alkali metal halide containing thallium, esp. Na I (Tl), invested in esp. a liquid high purity cyclic organic scintillator with ring molecular strrcture, esp. bezol, has less than 50 vol. % of organic material but still sufficient to coat the freshly cleaned faces of the crystal pieces, l mm to over 2.54 cm in length, in such a way as to promote fluorescence and energy transfer from the liquid molecular excited internally, into the molecules of the crystal material. The emitted radiation is in discrete bands in the wavelength range 3000-5000A, and this may be guaranteed by addition of a translator material. Increased intensity.
