Abstract
Substance has formula (A31 plus-or-minus xEux)2.B4+.C6+.O8 where A3+ is at least one trivalent element selected from the group comprising yttrium and gadolinium, B4+ at least one tetravalent element selected from the group comprising silicium, germanium, tin, titanium and zirconium, C6+ is at least one hexavalent element selected from the group comprising molybdenum and tungsten and x is limited by the inequality 0.01= x =0.3. Optionally x may be limited by the inequality 0.05= x =0.2. Luminescent substance is obtained which is chemically stable and efficiently emits red light on excitation of an ultra-violet radition of a beam of electrons. Use relates to cathode ray tubes and high pressure mercury lamps.
