Abstract

Moulded disc brakes, for use in heavy duty applications, e.g. railways, consist of a moulded sheet of friction material made from 15-20% of phenol-formaldehyde resin binder, 25-40% of mineral fillers, pref. cryolite, barytes or zircon, 10-20% of organic fillers, pref. rubber or cashew nut shell particles, 30-45% of asbestos fibres and 0-10% of hard carbon filler. The moulded sheet is fixed to a metal supporting plate.
