Abstract

Treatment device is intended for finely dividing household refuse so as to facilitate its transport to a spreading area where it can be used as a manure. It consists of a receiving hopper which feeds a horizontal cylinder. This is fitted with an endless screw which tapers towards the conical outlet, this tends to apply a slight degree of compression to the refuse. The latter is extruded from this outlet to be cut immediately into small pieces by a chopping machine; the pieces fall into a receiving hopper and are fed to a compaction chamber where they are pressed into a block by means of a hydraulic jack. When the desired press. is attained, a shutter is opened and the compressed block is ejected, ready for bagging in sacks which may, or may not, readily decay. Real economy is effected in transport and in avoiding the heavy cost of an incineration plant. The compressed refuse can be taken directly for spreading on agricultural land or it can be stored in sacks.
