Abstract

Pumps or compressors where a metal diaphragm oscillates to a degree restricted by two curved metal faces with passages leading to the flow pumping chamber or to the pneumatic or hydraulic pulse driving the diaphragm, where the surfaces are treated to reduce friction or adhesion between the diaphragm and its chamber walls. Pref. the diaphragm and/or the walls are covered with films of anti friction material, pref. 12.5-125 mu thick, pref. of PTFE deposited from an organic suspension. Suitable for operation at >=350 kg/cm2 in contact with a wide variety of fluids. The coating extends membrane life from about 20 h to >500 h.
