Abstract

The pinion is driven through a gear train with level gear input from a coaxial motor in the actuator housing. The shaft carrying this pinion and the final drive gear, as well as the shaft carrying the penultimate gear of the train, are mounted between a pair of filting plates, joined by a con. rod to the spring loaded armature of a coaxial solenoid in the top of the casing. When the solenoid is deenergized in response to overload, overheat etc. signals, the spring forces the armature downwards, causing the plates to tilt and so releasing the pinion from the rack.
