Abstract
Self supporting plastic packaging material, or a container made from this material, is ultimately degradable by the environment under the action of water, sunlight, natural atmospheric agents, or microorganisms. The containers remain stable while contg. the packaged material, but become degradable after use e.g. by removal of an outer film. The container has a device for accelerating degradation, and consists of (1) inner and outer layers of a water impermeable polymer, such as polyethylene, and a central layer of a water sol. polymer, such as hydroxypropyl-cellulose, or (2) an outer layer of a polymer absorbing UV and an inner layer of a polymer sensitive to degradation by UV.
